Gardens will continue its annual Hydrangea Seminar with a
special guest speaker this year.  Richard May of May
                                                Nursery,
Havana, Florida will present an exciting and
educational seminar to benefit everyone from the novice to the experienced gardener.
The seminar will be held at the DABG office.

Richard May’s agricultural roots go back to the nineteenth century in North Florida…back more than 150 years, in fact, when his great-great-grandfather first settled in Florida in the 1820’s.  For four generations the May family worked the land on successful tobacco farms, and now for two generations, his family has applied its extensive experience to the nursery business. The May Nursery is a 225 acre wholesale nursery that grows a wide variety of woody ornamental shrubs, trees, and perennials.

Richard grew up in Quincy, Florida and spent a great deal of his youth working at his family's nursery.  He attended Auburn University from 1995 to 2000 and earned two B.S. degrees; one in Horticulture and one in Agriculture Economics.  It was while at Auburn that Richard realized his true love for plants, and describes it as “an addiction and passion that continues today”.   Today Richard continues to work at May Nursery and is in charge of Research & Development, Pruning, Forecasting, and Production Planning.

He is an active collector of plants and searcher of new cultivars.  His biggest interests include Hydrangeas, Daylilies, Deciduous Azaleas, Natives, Salvias, Viburnums, Shrub Roses, and anything that flowers or is hard to find. A popular speaker in the Tallahassee area, Richard frequently opens his own garden to friends and plant lovers and it is a true testament to his love of unusual plant specimen.  Richard and his wife, Melissa, have two daughters, Lawre Bradley age two and Lucy, three months.
